Description: Based on data from the state if NE department of education's financial aid office it shows that completion and submission rates are below the national average and that the target of OPS 7 high schools showed that they are below the state average. State is lower than the national. Urban league and Goodrich have partnered to learn how the pandemic has contributed to the change and the role that FAFSA plays in that. Source link for other impacts/outcomes of 19 + million lost by the state. The project contributes to student sucess for UBL students and enrollment overall. Addtionally, it benefits youth who can't access higher education when able based on deadlines, supports state funds driven by FAFSA dollars, allows Goodrich to connect potential students who might benefit from better deadlines and possible increase for them to work with the seven omaha public schools to help them understand the barriers due to lack of bandwidth, and this support UBL as a pipeline program.

Description: UNO Geography students partner with Benson High School Honors Language Arts students to research significant sites around Omaha for the Anti-Defamation League’s Walk Against Hate event. Together, the students will contribute videos, graphics, or other content about each location for the Walk Against Hate website. The students also present their work to ADL staff and community partners. GEOG 1020 P-16

Description: UNO students enrolled in Kersten Borer SOWK 1500-001: Social Work and Civic Engagement will research selected sites in ADL’s Walk Against Hate and interview community members who have a connection to the site. These interviews are recorded and turned into videos (Vidgrid) or podcasts that are played on the ADL website (adlplains.org). Students can also provide essays, artwork, or blurbs about their thoughts associated with the site. In addition, UNO students work alongside the Secondary Success Program (SSP) and Blackburn Art students to create pieces of art for a site or two in ADL’s Walk Against Hate. UNO students will meet with the SSP and Blackburn students to share about the interviews that will inspire the artwork.

Description: UNO Young Scholars, led by Aaron Krueger, will serve as panelists for Jennifer Magnuson-Stressman’s 4th-grade Washington Elementary students. As panelists, the UNO students will offer their expertise on college and career readiness. The elementary students will prepare questions beforehand and then have the chance to understand what college is like from current college students. In the spring, the UNO students will take the 4th-graders on a campus tour and host an end-of-the-year picnic.
