Description : The research goal in terms of adapting deterrence to emerging security challenges is the examination of deterrence in a complex spectrum incorporating state and non-state actors and development of a tested and validated assessment methodology. This broad-spectrum assessment methodology facilitated systemic and rigorous identification and analysis of adversaries and their courses of action (what an adversary may do, why, and how to confirm/deny), deterrence profile, options, and influence points (what works and what to avoid). Pre-selected students were expected to perform all duties assigned and by their deadlines.

Description : In this course, students will attend lectures at UNO to learn about the natural history of the plants and animals in Costa Rica, the importance of biodiversity and what threatens it, and the conservation efforts succeeding in Costa Rica. During the trip through Costa Rica, some of the exciting places we will visit include: Tirimbina Biological Reserve and Research Station; EARTH University banana farm; Los Lagos Hot Springs by Arenal Volcano; Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve; Children’s Eternal Rainforest; Selvatura Park (zip lining and canopy bridge tours); local coffee farm (tour); and Esterillos Beach.

Description : This nonprofit panel included community organizations that also reside in the CEC. About the program: BOLD (BIH Omladinski Lideri, Bosnia and Herzegovina Young Leaders) Institute is an international exchange program sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Bosnia & Herzegovina, which brings the best and bright young professionals from BiH region to the U.S. The BOLD Fellowship consists of an academic residency hosted by UNO. This five-week intensive academic residency program takes place on the UNO campus, and introduces participants to a range of diverse cultures and opportunities within the context of U.S. civic engagement. Through the BOLD Institute on Civic Engagement at UNO, BOLD fellows will learn about the principles of democracy, diversity, and community service. Through experiential learning opportunities, fellows will develop leadership, communication, and team-building skills that will be used to enhance civic engagement in their communities, deepen bonds among ASEAN member-states, and reinforce ties between the U.S. and ASEAN. BOLD fellows will also have opportunities to interact with civic leaders from across the state and academic leaders from UNO. Fellows will also connect with UNO students from the U.S. and other countries through civic and cultural events. In addition, fellows will have time to explore the local area, participate in U.S. holidays and celebrations, and travel to historical sites throughout the Midwest. Fellows will also develop an Action Plan to implement in their home countries, and upon completion of the Action Plan, be eligible for funding opportunities through the BOLD alumni network (see the below information about the Action Plans). This panel is part of multiple activities and events that happen throughout omaha with specialty interest meetings.

Description : UNO students can live in the historic and friendly city of Ghent, dubbed one of the most 'authentic' places to visit by National Geographic. The main thoroughfare through the city is for bicycles only, and students can join them with a semester-long bicycle rental from the university. With multiple universities in its center, thousands of students call Ghent home each year. Ghent University is a top 100 university in global rankings and one of the major universities in Belgium, with a wide range of courses in English across the academic spectrum. UNO students must primarily take their courses from one of 3 faculties: Economics & Business Administration, Arts & Philosophy, or Political & Social Sciences. In addition to semester exchange and joint Erasmus funding applications, Ghent University and the College of Business Administration at UNO offer a dual degree program for graduate students.

Description : Innsbruck is nestled in the Alps, Austria and is a favorite for skiing and hiking no matter the time of year. The alpine city is beautiful in both the summer and winter, providing seasonal activities, festivals, and concerts. Austria is also an excellent country from which to see more of Europe, with its centralized location making it a good home base. Management Center Innsbruck (MCI) is one of two major universities in the city, testifying to its student friendly atmosphere. MCI has quickly developed into one of the top business schools in Austria and is rated the highest in student satisfaction. MCI has particular strengths in its wide range of English courses and the ability to find internships alongside coursework. UNO and MCI have an extensive partnership including summer and semester exchange, faculty cooperation, and two dual degree programs with the College of Information Science and Technology and the College of Business Administration.

Description : Innsbruck is the capital of the western state of Tyrol, just two hours from Salzburg and Munich. A small section of sturdy medieval houses painted in a variety of pastels marks Innsbruck's Old Town. In addition to the mix of historic and modern sites in the city, Innsbruck is the perfect location for hikers, winter sport enthusiasts, and anyone who loves being near the mountains. Along with Management Center Innsbruck (MCI), the University of Innsbruck makes Innsbruck a student oriented city with stunning views of the Alps and easy treks to neighboring European cities. University of Innsbruck offers a full range of courses in German for students seeking an immersive semester or year abroad. English courses are available at the graduate level. University of Innsbruck and UNO became bilateral exchange partners in 2014.

Description : Canada offers a high quality of living, unique multiculturalism, and vast natural wonders. Québec City is the heart of French-speaking Canada, a UNESCO world heritage city ranking as Canada’s top visitor destination, with a distinctly European feel to it. French is widely spoken in our neighboring country to the north, where it is an official language. Québec has a significant French cultural influence. Laval University offers over 400 academic programs, all taught in French. Students must have a B2 French level on the Common European Framework Reference scale. It is also possible to study French as a Foreign Language (FLE) at Laval University. UNO and Laval University first became affiliated in 2007. Every other summer, UNO’s French Department sends a UNO faculty leader with a class of students to spend 5 weeks studying French at Laval University.

Description : Mikkeli is in the heart of Lakeland Finland, a popular outdoor destination and the ‘holiday capital’ of Finland. Lovers of the outdoors will feel at home here. Aalto University and Mikkeli are host to numerous international students from around the world. From its quirky capital to its expansive forests, Finland is sure to hold delights for every student, and it is well-connected to the rest of Europe for the keen traveler. It was also named as one of the top ten countries in the world to visit in 2017. Aalto University School of Business is the largest and leading business school in Finland, with Triple Crown status and an active startup community. Aalto University is a bilateral exchange partner of UNO. Students can study business in the heart of lakeland Finland for the cost of UNO tuition in the summer, semester, or academic year. In addition to Aalto and UNO’s student exchange, faculty from the College of Business Administration travel to Mikkeli each year to teach courses as part of Aalto’s unique three-week module academic calendar.
