Description :
UNO Students from Kersten Borer SOWK 1500-001 course: Social Work and Civic Engagement work on a service-learning project. This project will build on the success of the “Portions” cookbook project that collected recipes from community members accessing the food pantry and turned them into a community cookbook by, and for, our community members. Now that we have this resource, we want to use it to educate the wider community about the various causes and consequences of hunger in Omaha, focusing specifically on the ways that food insecurity impacts and is influenced by the reality of our community residents everyday lives. Students determine what kind of information they need from the community and how to get that information, collect stories from community members accessing the food pantry at Together, and create a cookbook with recipes and stories around the way food brings us together.
