Description : A 4-week program for youth of color to come on to campus and learn about careers in STEAM. The workshop covers career opportunities, financial literacy, job readiness and healthy living. The STEAM Academy is free to attend and is a collaborative effort with Omaha Public Schools, for up to 20 kids in grades 7-12.

Description : Dr. Michael Matthews UNO class (Math for Elementary Teachers II) will collaborate with Mary Kilnoski’s fifth graders of Marrs, to solve math problems. This activity will include in person problem solving and the use of media to communicate about different math problems. At the final Celebration students will gather and solve one last math problem together and visit the UNO campus. MTCH 2010 P-16

Description : UNO Geography students partner with Benson High School Honors Language Arts students to research significant sites around Omaha for the Anti-Defamation League’s Walk Against Hate event. Together, the students will contribute videos, graphics, or other content about each location for the Walk Against Hate website. The students also present their work to ADL staff and community partners. GEOG 1020 P-16

Description : UNO and OVS students meet virtually to learn about communication in academic and professional settings. During the meetings, UNO students present on communication topics, such as showing enthusiasm in virtual spaces, and work with the OVS students to create short PSAs about topics from their class. Description : For this project Kristin Taylor taught an Applied Piano course in which her students performed music from their own heritage. Students also recorded vidoes speaking about what the piece meant fro them in relation to their background. Enrollees in the course also answered student questions after their performances.

Description : Edmund Tisko coordinates the Chemistry Field Day for UNO, which is a competition amongst high school student teams. There are six events based on chemical knowledge, with schools competing against one another.
