Description : The gallery will feature nationally-curated art meant for more senses than sight, tactile interpretations of classic art, and artwork created at four art workshops for the visually impaired, which were held at UNO over the summer. The name of the exhibit says it all: this art is meant to be touched. The art workshops were made possible with assistance from the Nebraska Arts Council, WhyArts?, Omaha Association of the Blind, Outlook Nebraska, Pamela Duncan (interpreter), and volunteer student interpreters from UNO.

Description : Scholar and performer Benjamin Bagby explores how he reconstructed the performance of the Anglo–Saxon poem, in a free, public lecture at UNO. For a thousand years or more, one of Europe’s greatest epics had been silently awaiting its return to the domain of the bards who first gave voice to the thrilling story of King Hrothgar, the monster Grendel, and the hero Beowulf. In this lecture, the vocalist, storyteller, and early music scholar Benjamin Bagby will walk the audience through his research and reconstruction of the poem – how he took the story of Beowulf from its written form and brought it back to its original home: a live performance of oral epic.

Description : Nebraska HeartBeats is a collaborative project that aims to improve the quality of life of people affected by Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) through participatory, creative musical experiences with the University of Nebraska at Omaha Maverick String Quartet. The goal of Nebraska HeartBeats is to provide social and emotional support to individuals and their care partners affected by ADRD. Through an adaptive music curriculum that focuses on musician/participant interaction, the UNO Maverick String Quartet aims to address the emotional and social needs of participants while contributing to the environment of care.
