Students are expected to create a presentation (or write a clear and concise paper) summarizing their service learning experience, integrating key concepts from class, assignments and group discussions. In short, in the presentation or paper, students will research and inform their classmates on their selected nonprofit organization’s history, significance, goals/mission statement, rationale, description of stakeholders and targeted groups, events, program activities, planned outcomes, management plan, financial support/budget, and their personal experience volunteering at the organization. Each student is expected to volunteer at least five hours of community service to the selected local nonprofit organization from the list provided. With legal documentation- known as advance directives- you can avoid confusion and instruct your family- friends- and health care professionals what sort of health care you want to receive and what other decisions you want to be made on your behalf. Discussing the ups and downs of setting up an advance directive can benefit you or a loved one in the future. This is not an age limited discussion--all can benefit from this information. In March- the series hosts Amy Haddad from Creighton University. Begin With the End in Mind discussions are free and open to the public with registration.

The Virtual World Project: 2016-17 Arts, Culture and Humanities, Educational Support Creighton University Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center (CEC), Schwalb Center for Israel and Jewish Studies Knowledge and Resource Sharing Community-oriented lecture/event None Spring 2016-17 Spring 2016-17 0 0 0 0 0 70 History The event, Virtual World Project: Exploring the Ancient World with Virtual Reality, will host Dr. Nicolae Roddy and Dr. Ronald Simkins from the Theology Department at Creighton to present the website and resource, Virtual World Project, which provides interactive virtual tours of the ancient world (Israel & Jordan). The tours allow visitors of the site to “wander” through various archaeological sites.
Newman Center Garden Landscape and Tree Planting: 2018-19 (946) Environmental Stewardship Creighton University, John Paul II Newman Center, Urban Bird and Nature Alliance Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center (CEC), Center for Urban Sustainability, Engineering and Construction Volunteering Volunteerism None Spring 2018-19 Spring 2018-19 30 0 0 20 0 0 Gardens/Plantlife The Newman Center Bible garden landscape and the papio-creek tree planting event drew Newman Center students and UNO engineering students from Avery Schwer and Bing Chen’s classes at UNL, Creighton Biology and sustainability students and the College of Saint Mary’s Earth Science course students. Students from the UNO Center for Urban Sustainability participated in the event. Approximately 69 UNO and UNL students and boy scouts volunteered that day. Surrounding neighborhood residents participated also. We received much media coverage. The Newman Center garden and raised beds event had an estimated 25-30 Newman Center students participating in the planting of shrubs and perennials.

Support is both needed and critical for the continuation and growth of Goodrich’s Futures Fair partnership with P4K, UNO/CPACS and the community. Goodrich and P4K, with the assistance of CPACS and UNO, intend to continue to promote the accessibility of higher education to underserved middle school students through meaningful engagement that will create an immediate tangible opportunity for educational and employment exploration through the Futures Fair.
Spring Fest(Spring 2024): 2023-24 (3234) Educational Support Autism Society of NE, Creighton University College of Education, Health, and Human Science Service Learning None None Spring 2023-24 None 19 551 0 0 0 0 UNO speech-language pathology (SLP) graduate students had the opportunity to engage in a service learning project encompassing interdisciplinary collaboration with Creighton occupational therapy (OT) students. UNO and Creighton students designed activities for participants on the autism spectrum to build upon various gross motor and speech skills during the Autism Society of Nebraska (ASN) Spring Festival.
