The Librarians from UNCL: The Evolution of a University Library Consortium.: 2016-17 (1931) Educational Support Nebraska Library Association UNO Libraries Knowledge and Resource Sharing None None Fall 2016-17 Fall 2016-17 0 0 0 0 0 0 Education, Literacy The University of Nebraska Council of Libraries (UNCL) was originally formed in the early 1980s by the three University of Nebraska (UN) system libraries. Over the decades, the coalition experienced periods of variable activity and dormancy depending on the state's economy, organizational priorities, and the personalities and mindsets of library directors. Beginning in 2015, the collaborative effort reengaged, broadened its membership, changed its name, and implemented a formal MOU. More importantly, UNCL members utilized this unity to share resources and secure materials benefiting all members of the consortium. In this program, deans and a director from the new University of Nebraska Consortium of Libraries will share the development of UNCL, the issues and obstacles of a system-wide collaboration, the significant benefits of the organization, the verbal and monetary encouragement bestowed upon UNCL by the UN System President, and the consortium's future plans and possibilities. Presented by David Richards, University of Nebraska at Omaha; Nancy J. Busch, Dean of Libraries, University of Nebraska--Lincoln; Janet Stoeger Wilke, Dean of the Library, University of Nebraska at Kearney; Emily McElroy, Director of McGoogan Library of Medicine.
