"In Two Places" Concert - Conductor: 2019-20 (2050) Arts, Culture and Humanities Nebraska Wind Symphony Music Knowledge and Resource Sharing Community-oriented lecture/event None Spring 2019-20 Spring 2019-20 0 0 0 0 0 0 Music/Dance, Art Joshua Kearney served as the music director of the Nebraska Wind Symphony's "In Two Places" concert at the Omaha Conservatory of Music. This was a collaboration with UNO Faculty soloist, Dr. Patrick Brown. This concert featured 23 guest/nominated middle saxophonists from across Nebraska and was partially funded through a grant from the Nebraska Arts Council and Conn-Selmer.

This was partially funded using external grand funding form the Douglas County CARES Act.

The Concert was preformed socially distanced, masked with bell covers, and outdoors.
Dunedin, FL Virtual Music Festival: 2020-21 (2045) Arts, Culture and Humanities Nebraska Wind Symphony Music Knowledge and Resource Sharing None None Fall 2020-21 Fall 2020-21 0 0 0 0 0 0 Music/Dance, Art The Nebraska Wind Symphony participated in the Dunedin, FL Music Society's Virtual Band Festival on Saturday, August 29. Six different bands provided video recordings of eight varied musical selections with representatives of each band, including NWS Music Director Joshua Kearney, providing some background information between sections. NWS contributed the virtual recording of "Earth Song" by Frank Ticheli to the festival.

Project Lead - Music Composition Commissioning: 2020-21 (2013) Arts, Culture and Humanities Nebraska Wind Symphony Music Knowledge and Resource Sharing Community-oriented lecture/event None Spring 2020-21 Spring 2020-21 0 0 0 0 0 0 Music/Dance, Art Joshua Kearney led a project to commission Omaha composer Keith Michael Davis to compose a work for a band ensemble to be played over conferencing software, in person, and/or both simultaneously. The project resulted in the piece "Hive" which has been programmed by ensembles across the United States.

This piece was commissioned by the Nebraska Wind Symphony in December 2020 to be performed over conferencing software in an effort to make music safely after the holiday season.
NWS Staying Connected Virtual Lecture Series: 2019-20 (2005) Arts, Culture and Humanities Nebraska Wind Symphony Music Knowledge and Resource Sharing Community-oriented lecture/event None Spring 2019-20 Spring 2019-20 0 0 0 0 0 0 Education, Music/Dance, Art, Theatre and Cinema Joshua Kearney facilitated a series of virtual lectures/discussions from January to March 2021. Prominent Guests joined members of the Nebraska Wind Symphony to speak on issues surrounding performance, COVID-19, and film scoring. This initiative was developed to engage members during the winter months immediately following holiday gatherings in 2020. NWS opted to meet via Zoom in the event of a COVID-19 spike after the 2020 holiday season.
Virtual Performance - Frank Ticheli "Earth Song" - Conductor: 2020-21 (2046) Arts, Culture and Humanities Nebraska Wind Symphony Music Knowledge and Resource Sharing Community-oriented lecture/event None Summer 2020-21 Summer 2020-21 0 0 0 0 0 0 Music/Dance, Art Joshua Kearny served as the music director for the Nebraska Wind Symphony's virtual performance of Frank Ticheli's "Earth Song". Performers submitted individual audio/video recordings of their parts that were edited and combined into a single large band recording through use multi-tracking, video editing, etc.

Performers submitted audio recordings and photos of their COVID-19 learning environment that were complied into a soundscape/collage.
