The Expo represents a collaborative effort between the SPIRIT Project and the Nebraska 4-H Youth Development project, and FIRST® LEGO® League to create an outstanding robotics competition for about 1,000 of our local and greater Nebraska area youth. They created pen pal groups and exchanged videos ranging from rapport building activities, to college mentoring questions, covid safety tips and end of the semester wishes. The goal of this project was to meet the social emotional needs of elementary school students by connecting them with graduate students. The third graders weren’t feeling as connected to others during the current school year and the partnership with the school counselor to come up with ideas to address this was a way to connect.
