PenPal Connection (Spring 2021): 2020-21 (2092) Educational Support Conestoga Magnet Elementary, Omaha Public Schools Psychology, Service Learning Academy (SLA) Service Learning Course None Spring 2020-21 Spring 2020-21 9 162 0 23 253 0 Capacity Building School psychology students partnered with Socorrito Salcido, school counselor, and Ms. Amoura’s third grade class at Conestoga Elementary in Omaha to provide social-emotional support to students. They created pen pal groups and exchanged videos ranging from rapport building activities, to college mentoring questions, covid safety tips and end of the semester wishes. The goal of this project was to meet the social emotional needs of elementary school students by connecting them with graduate students. The third graders weren’t feeling as connected to others during the current school year and the partnership with the school counselor to come up with ideas to address this was a way to connect.
