Participants increase awareness of the Omaha community, their needs, assets, personnel, and practice. Participants demonstrate an understanding of the Pre-K-12 Service-Learning Standards for Quality Practice (NYLC, 2008). Participants understand the benefits of service learning and its connections to other key frameworks such as AAC&U High Impact Practices, 40 Developmental Assets, 21st Century Skills, and standards-driven curriculum. UNO, P-12, after-school program faculty, and community partners build collaborative relationships and begin service learning project planning. Participants are prepared to create quality service learning experiences.

Language Culture and Power (Summer 2021): 2020-21 (2112) Educational Support Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands Service Learning Academy (SLA), Teacher Education Service Learning Course None Summer 2020-21 Summer 2020-21 14 140 0 14 65 0 Capacity Building UNO Education students in Dr. Sandra Rodriguez-Arroyo's TED 8130: Language, Culture, and Power course work with youth from Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands to create presentations about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on language, culture, and power. Through the project, the students build relationships with each other in virtual meeting rooms by participating in activities and small group discussion. The goal of the interactions is to empower the Boys & Girls Club students in developing their own voice and power while UNO students receive firsthand experience in discussing and applying course topics and frameworks. African American Psychology (Fall 2022): 2022-23 (2790) Social Justice Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands, Culxr House, Urban League of Nebraska Psychology, Service Learning Academy (SLA) Service Learning Course None Fall 2022-23 Fall 2022-23 35 385 0 0 0 1 Inclusion, Diversity & Equity The purpose of this project is for UNO college students to develop their understanding of African American psychology through the student philanthropy model of service learning. UNO students are seeking organizations that are Black-led and Black-focused. Students will work with select community partners during the semester for their final course project. With this project, UNO students will be required to volunteer for a minimum of 5 hours and do something tangible in the community. Volunteer opportunities will be based on the needs of the organization. Students will be learning about service leadership and will present how they used leadership/course content in their service work. For the final presentation, students will do their own independent research into the organization and present that along with their experiences volunteering for the organization of their choice. At the end of the semester, students will vote for one organization to receive the $1000 grant. MPI service learning course PSYC 4150.850
Three Days of Service - 10/14/17: 2017-18 (135) Educational Support Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands Student Service and Leadership Collaborative (The Collaborative) Volunteering Volunteerism None Fall 2017-18 None 13 0 0 1 0 1 Youth Programming In addition to being a Boys and Girls Club Legacy site, we also host Camp Nakomis every summer. The camp office is in need of a face lift. We would utilize volunteers to help paint the camp office/shelves and storage area as well as organize the space. In addition, we have New Employee Orientation packets that will also need to be put together for the remainder of the year. The extra hands would be of great help!
