Participants increase awareness of the Omaha community, their needs, assets, personnel, and practice. Participants demonstrate an understanding of the Pre-K-12 Service-Learning Standards for Quality Practice (NYLC, 2008). Participants understand the benefits of service learning and its connections to other key frameworks such as AAC&U High Impact Practices, 40 Developmental Assets, 21st Century Skills, and standards-driven curriculum. UNO, P-12, after-school program faculty, and community partners build collaborative relationships and begin service learning project planning. Participants are prepared to create quality service learning experiences. | ||

UNO students, Edison Elementary students, and residents of Quality Living Inc. will collaborate together with elderly participants of Florence Home to build relationships across generations and communication levels. UNO students, 2nd graders, and QLI residents will work on areas of learning related their respective curriculum standards and social goals (such as speaking, listening, reading, and writing), while demonstrating creative ways to visualize the life stories shared by the seniors. | ||

Students are paid through the grant-funded program. Nonprofits coordinate meaningful work for interns to benefit the student experience in different ways. Students typically intern during the fall and spring semesters and may serve the same organization for more than one academic year. Each unique student that works as a Collaborative intern with this specific community partner is identified within this project. | ||
