This report shows the various collaborative projects between UNO and the community. Various filters are provided to gain a better understanding of how different UNO units collaborate with the community.

ILUNO/Holling Heights (Fall 2016): 2016-17 (001) Educational Support Holling Heights Elementary, Millard Branch, Omaha Public Library International Studies, Service Learning Academy (SLA) Service Learning Course None Fall 2016-17 None None 22 38 0 21 105 0 Literacy As a part of UNO’s Service Learning Academy’s P-16 program, the UNO and Holling Heights students will discuss culture and diversity, and work together to develop an art mural for the Holling Heights community.  In addition, community partner, Adrian Gomez Meza the immigrant & refugee services coordinator at the Omaha Public Library will assist with a book reading of Same, Same, But Different by Jenny Sue Kostecki-Shaw to springboard culture and diversity dialogue.  OPL will ultimately house a piece of the mural – representing the ties that we have to our communities near and far.  This event will allow students to continue cultural conversations through the development of an individual art piece.

The videos were used for the Omaha Public Library summer camp.

Out and About Storytime (Fall 2017): 2017-18 Educational Support Holling Heights Elementary, Omaha Public Library International Studies, Service Learning Academy (SLA) Service Learning Course None Fall 2017-18 None None 7 168 0 17 0 0 Literacy ILUNO students and ELL students from Holling Heights Elementary School are working together to read a series of books and develop activities at a new Omaha Public Library community story time for caregivers and young children.
Watch Me Grow (Spring 2019): 2018-19 (1031) Educational Support Holling Heights Elementary Service Learning Academy (SLA) Service Learning Course None Spring 2018-19 Spring 2018-19 14 56 0 0 0 0 Watch Me Grow is a collaboration between the UNO intensive language programs, ILUNO, taught by Instructor Linda Loftus, and the English Language Learners at Holling Heights Elementary School taught by Kim Brown. This project focuses on creating discussion and language fluency between UNO and elementary students. Students will interview each other about their favorite cultural recipes to be included in a cookbook.
Watch Me Grow (Fall 2019): 2019-20 (1160) Educational Support, Environmental Stewardship Holling Heights Elementary, Keep Omaha Beautiful Service Learning Academy (SLA) Service Learning Course None Fall 2019-20 Fall 2019-20 25 200 0 14 56 2 Waste, Gardens/Plantlife, Leadership and Mentoring, Climate and Sustainability Watch Me Grow is a collaboration between the UNO’s intensive language program (ILUNO) students taught by Linda Loftus and Holling Heights Elementary English Language Learners taught by Kim Brown. This project focuses on creating fluency, discussion, and mentorship between students, while learning and serving the community. This year’s topic is community beautification and environmental stewardship. Through partnerships with Keep Omaha Beautiful and FirstStar Fiber, students will learn about and practice this topic in the Omaha community.
