More than 50 young women from Omaha South, Omaha Central, Westside, and Northwest High Schools attended the program.  At the event, women elected officials were interviewed by these high school students to learn more about their life in politics, educational and professional experiences. After these interviews, students worked in small groups to produce their own mock political campaigns, including speeches and campaign slogans. Teams presented at the workshop on a public policy issue currently being addressed in Nebraska: voter identification laws. Throughout the fall semester, students from UNO’s College of Communication had been working on this event in their public speaking service learning course. UNO students were responsible for preparing policy issue briefs and coaching the high school students on their mock campaign speeches at the workshop.
