Students are paid through the grant-funded program. Nonprofits coordinate meaningful work for interns to benefit the student experience in different ways. Students typically intern during the fall and spring semesters and may serve the same organization for more than one academic year. Each unique student that works as a Collaborative intern with this specific community partner is identified within this project.

TLC/P4K (Fall 2017): 2017-18 Educational Support Partnership 4 Kids Service Learning Academy (SLA), Thompson Learning Community Service Learning Course None Fall 2017-18 None None 125 2,125 0 117 1,170 0 Youth Programming, Leadership and Mentoring Partnership 4 Kids afterschool program is partnered with the Thompson Learning Community students, who act as mentors to the P4K students. They exchange journals with their partnered mentors to ask questions about how to be prepared for college and TLC students respond back with answers of their experience. They work in groups to discuss their strengths, they present on their findings and they build relationships as a result. The students collectively will work on their food drive for Together Inc. and Heart Ministry Center, the donations will go to fill Together, Inc.’s and Heart Ministry Center's pantries. At the beginning of next semester they will organize a pancake feed for Together Inc. as well (January date).

This system has been extremely beneficial to P4K’s long-term sustainability. This senior capstone project, led by Dr. Deepak Khazanchi, helped P4K establish a more effective tracking system for data collection and outcome evaluations.

Partnership 4 Kids, in conjunction with the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Goodrich Program and Metropolitan Community College will host their annual “Futures Fair”, a career exploration event, designed specifically for middle school students. Nearly 250 middle-school students attend at the CEC on the UNO campus, where these pre-teens will get a glimpse at their future career possibilities and receive first-hand insights as well as expert advice from Omaha business professionals representing occupations ranging from aviation to advertising. Not only will Partnership 4 Kids students explore the wide range of possible career opportunities that exist locally, but they will also get a taste of higher education from current Goodrich Scholars who will serve as the students’ personal guides and advisors for the duration of the career fair. Partnership 4 Kids started collaborating with UNO for the annual futures fair in 2013, while P4K has hosted this event for many years prior.

TLC P4K: 2019-20 (1155) Educational Support Partnership 4 Kids Thompson Learning Community Service Learning Course None Fall 2019-20 Fall 2019-20 80 560 0 116 1,160 0 Leadership and Mentoring As a part of their Service Learning project with Thompson Learning Community, Partnership 4 Kids will visit UNO to work in groups with their partners. Together students will be working on resume building and interview skills. After they have completed working in groups, they will share what they have learned in a presentation to the group. This project supported the development of P4K’s career readiness curriculum and as a result of this project, P4K students will hold mock interviews within their program and build upon what they learned with the TLC students in the fall.

Partnership 4 Kids UNO Student Mentors: 2016-17 (937) Educational Support Partnership 4 Kids Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center (CEC) Volunteering Volunteerism None Spring 2016-17 Spring 2018-19 45 0 0 0 0 0 Leadership and Mentoring Since moving into the CEC, Partnership 4 Kids has worked with UNO students to provide opportunities to mentor other students between the ages of elementary and freshmen year in college. Specifically, P4K has placed approximately 15 UNO students in mentor matches within P4K elementary, middle and high schools. In addition, P4K has matched approximately 30 UNO college juniors and seniors with incoming P4K freshmen to serve as peer mentors. These volunteer opportunities include professional development/training, stipends and coaching/mentor support from P4K staff.

Support is both needed and critical for the continuation and growth of Goodrich’s Futures Fair partnership with P4K, UNO/CPACS and the community. Goodrich and P4K, with the assistance of CPACS and UNO, intend to continue to promote the accessibility of higher education to underserved middle school students through meaningful engagement that will create an immediate tangible opportunity for educational and employment exploration through the Futures Fair.

Students select and research a community agency of their own interest, then develop and present a persuasive speech and call to action on behalf of the organization. This is a student led initiative, giving students a $1,000 grant to distribute to one community agency - the persuasive speech presentation with the best call to action. MPI Traditional Project.
