The first interaction consisted of the elementary students interviewing the ILUNO students to learn about their culture. The second interaction hosted a time for students to create a craft together that was donated the same day to Aksarben Senior Living. ASL also provided a tour to the students.

Hosted event in CEC space. Panelists included Christina Running Hawk Ellison of the Lakota Oglala Sioux, Jordan Zendejas of the Umo Ho Tribe of Nebraska, Grace Johnson of the Oglala Lakota, and moderated by Echohawk Lefthand of the Diné Tribe. Panelists discussed concerns around the appropriation of native and indigenous cultures, specifically addressing the importance of medicines and their sustainability, missing, and murdered Indigenous women, and mascots. The afternoon concluded with panelists encouraging the audience to learn about native and Indigenous history and culture. They reminded the audience that it is okay to appreciate the culture and heritage of native and Indigenous peoples without appropriating and changing the narrative

This service learning project has UNO students perform music that they have learned to Central High students, after which UNO students will teach them the songs by sharing the score of the music pieces with them and having rehearsals afterwards. Central High students will have the opportunity to engage and further their learning with these materials as they perform the music they learn to residents of Aksarben Village. P-16 Project. United In Song (Fall 2020): 2020-21 (1516) Arts, Culture and Humanities, Health and Wellness Aksarben Village Senior Living, Dial Senior Living Music, Service Learning Academy (SLA) Service Learning Course None Fall 2020-21 Fall 2020-21 34 272 0 0 0 0 Gerontology, Music/Dance Dr. Fox’s students from MUS 2100 and individuals from UNO School of Music created cover songs from various genres. These songs were requested by residents from retirement communities, nursing, and assisted living facilities around the metropolitan area. The objective of this service-learning project was to provide the geriatric population joy during COVID-19. UNO students recorded themselves and the individual recordings were presented to the local community.
Sound Health - Faculty Research: 2016-17 (2134) Arts, Culture and Humanities, Educational Support, Health and Wellness Aksarben Village Senior Living, Dial Senior Living, Childrens Hospital and Medical Center, Country House Memory Care Facility Music Engaged Research Faculty Research None Spring 2016-17 Spring 2017-18 0 0 0 0 0 0 Capacity Building, Health Awareness, Music/Dance, Art The goals of Sound Health are to contribute to a healing environment; to give music student service- learning opportunities; and to break down the “fourth wall” barriers, connecting musicians to their audiences and vice versa. Since its inception, Sound Health has provided over 100 performances by over 100 musicians for thousands of patients, staff, and visitors. During the fall 2017 semester, approximately 40 students participated in Sound Health and Sound Health - Performances and Reflections served as the culminating celebration of the fall semester. The purpose of the event was to enjoy performances by Sound Health musicians; hear how they were affected by their experience; share listener feedback; recognize students who have performed; and promote engagement between musicians, listeners, and community.

Also, it applies knowledge acquired about the voice through studio teaching and observations of other voice teachers. (Cross-listed with MUS 8616). The course designed for UNO students, so they could train their mentor skills while teaching Central High School students, and for the school students this partnership is an opportunity to perform and train their presentation skills. This class has two events that allows the international language learning students from UNO to collaborate with Aksarben Senior Living, WhyArts, and Holling Heights Elementary students to make art for an art gallery for senior residents. The collaboration allows ILUNO students to engage with the community and collaborate with elementary students and senior citizens.  ILUNO 3695.001 P-16
