This project allowed the elementary students to foster intergenerational relationships between themselves and their senior buddies through their creation of poetry and art. UNO students benefited by the gained experience of supervising a community partnership and learning about the importance of engaging their future students with opportunities outside the classroom. | ||

UNO students met with 7th graders and residents about once per week to write, practice, and prep for the skit performance at the end of the semester. UNO students also went individually to Royale Oaks and Scared Heart to work on rapport building. | |||

Participants increase awareness of the Omaha community, their needs, assets, personnel, and practice. Participants demonstrate an understanding of the Pre-K-12 Service-Learning Standards for Quality Practice (NYLC, 2008). Participants understand the benefits of service learning and its connections to other key frameworks such as AAC&U High Impact Practices, 40 Developmental Assets, 21st Century Skills, and standards-driven curriculum. UNO, P-12, after-school program faculty, and community partners build collaborative relationships and begin service learning project planning. Participants are prepared to create quality service learning experiences. | ||

UNO students from Jeff Knapp's Social Work and Civic Engagement course will work alongside residents of Royale Oaks to plan and host a Fall Bash party. Students will build relationships with residents and gain insight on activities the residents would be interested in that they may not typically participate in. Students will then work with residents on activities such as art projects to create party décor, selection of music, games and activities. The final Fall Ball will be held mid to late November. | ||
