FLC(Fall 2017): 2017-18 Educational Support Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska, Nathan Hale Middle School, Omaha Public Schools Freshman Leadership Council, Service Learning Academy (SLA) Service Learning Course None Fall 2017-18 None None 20 160 0 20 80 0 Civic and Political Engagement, Youth Programming Sara Ridgley’s students from Nathan Hale Middle School worked together with the members from UNO’s Freshman Leadership Council. The students all participated in activities that revolved around personality traits. Early in the semester, all of the students took personality test to determine what category they would fall into. FLC members then created activities that all of the participants could partake in together.  FLC connected with middle school students to help learn about government and student involvement. All students worked to make placements together which were donated to Children's Hospital.

STEPs will provide treatment fidelity services including a logic model, retrospective data analysis, training alumni survey, and a focus group of current participants.
A Film Screening of "This Is Home: A Refugee Story": 2018-19 (866) Arts, Culture and Humanities, International Service, Social Justice Central High School, Omaha Public Schools, Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska, Omaha Public Schools Philosophy and Religious Studies Knowledge and Resource Sharing Community-oriented lecture/event None Spring 2018-19 Spring 2018-19 0 0 0 0 0 0 Refugees, Theatre and Cinema UNO and community members are invited to view the moving and informative documentary “This Is Home: A Refugee Story,” which follows four Syrian refugee families as they navigate a new life in Baltimore, MD during the first 8 months after resettlement. After the film, there will be a brief panel discussion with Lacey Studnicka of Lutheran Family Services and two Central High School students whose families were resettled in Omaha as refugees from Syria. Food will be provided. This event is sponsored by Lutheran Family Services, Omaha Public Schools, Central High School, Goldstein Family Community Chair in Human Rights, and the UNO Department of Religious Studies.
Nebraska Families Collaborative Adoption Program Evaluation (Spring 2017): 2016-17 (2352) Economic Impact Child Saving Institute, Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska, Nebraska Childrens Home Society, Nebraska Collaborative Center Support and Training for the Evaluation of Programs (STEPs) Engaged Research None None Spring 2016-17 Summer 2016-17 0 1 0 108 0 0 The purpose of this project is to evaluate the new Nebraska Adoption Project of Nebraska Families Collaborative. Collaborating partners include Lutheran Family Service, Nebraska Children's Home Society, and Child Saving Institute. The Nebraska Adoption Project is designed to improve permanency outcomes for children/youth in the Eastern Service Area child welfare system who are considered "hardest to place" (see logic model). Process evaluation components will determine if services were delivered as intended and adhered to the program models (fidelity), and provides a cost-benefit analysis of the program. The outcome evaluation components will determine the outcomes for the youth in foster care. An experimental research design with random assignment will be utilized. Qualitative research will be used to capture rich data for process evaluation purposes. The sample available for this evaluation is anticipated to be 108 youth, with 72 youth in the Treatment group (Nebraska Adoption Project), and 36 youth in the Treatment As Usual (Wendy's Wonderful Kids) group.
