As a result of attending the Asset-Based lunch and learn, attendees will be able to: Identify the assets of local and diverse communities; Recognize the impactful resources and voices communities possess to promote positive social change; Identify service learning and civic engagement experiences through UNO.
Microaggressions in Community Engagement (Spring 2018): 2017-18 (963) Educational Support, Social Justice University of Louisville Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center (CEC), Center for Faculty Excellence, Service Learning Academy (SLA) Knowledge and Resource Sharing Workshop None Spring 2017-18 Spring 2017-18 0 0 0 0 0 0 Inclusion, Diversity & Equity, Civic and Political Engagement Dr. Cynthia Ganote will lead an interactive workshop for CEC staff, graduate assistants, community partners, and students where key concepts associated with microaggression will be defined and discussed. Microresistance strategies will be highlighted with activities used to demonstrate how to apply these strategies in community engagement. By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to identify how microaggressions and bias could occur in community engagement spaces and practice responses.
Avoiding Microaggressions in Service Learning Courses (Spring 2018): 2017-18 (964) Educational Support, Social Justice Civic Nebraska, University of Louisville Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center (CEC), Center for Faculty Excellence, Service Learning Academy (SLA) Knowledge and Resource Sharing Workshop None Spring 2017-18 Spring 2017-18 0 0 0 0 0 0 Inclusion, Diversity & Equity, Civic and Political Engagement Dr. Cynthia Ganote will lead an interactive workshop for faculty and administrators where key concepts associated with microaggression will be defined and discussed. Microresistance strategies will be highlighted with activities used to demonstrate how to apply these strategies throughout the service learning cycle. By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to integrate strategies into their syllabus to share what works for their classrooms and explore new ways to better prepare students for service learning work that uses an asset based approach.
