Description : UNO social work students visit Omaha Street School one day per week throughout the semester to interact with and build rapport with OSS students. They are integrated into the school’s Life Skills course from 8:30am to 10:00am each morning. OSS teachers help UNO students engage with OSS students and assist in teaching. As the communication unit of the semester begins, UNO students plan and facilitate about 2 lesson plans related to listening and communication. UNO students then attend the ball pit events with OSS students to help them engage with the community and speak with others.  A second portion of this project involved UNO students working with Table Grace Café. UNO students went to Table Grace Café one day per week to interact with patrons and assist with the peer resource guide. UNO students were expected to talk to patrons from a variety of backgrounds, learn more about them, and help connect them to resources if needed. They also helped to recreate and update Table Grace Café’

Description : GWO is an ongoing partnership between Dr. Ritzman’s SPED 4750 Childhood Language Disorders class and Blackburn Alternative Program (BAP) high school students. Each year, the project has a different focus and community partner. This year, the project focus was on the 30 Americans exhibit at the Joslyn Art Museum. The UNO students taught 5 sessions throughout the semester in either Ms. Colon (English and Yearbook) or Ms. George (Arts and Computer Graphics) classes. SPED 4750 students learned to work hands-on in any type of classroom (“Language is Everywhere”) and BAP students received learning assistance in their respective classrooms. As a community partner, the Joslyn Art Museum worked with the Blackburn students to create podcasts focusing on the various art installments at the Joslyn. The Blackburn students’ podcasts can be heard on the Joslyn Art Museum's YouTube channel.

Description : Students in the class will work to develop prototypes of innovative technologies that seek to answer the question: "What would make the Omaha metro area a better place to live?" The focus of the project will be to develop technologies that enable equitable access to housing and transportation, as identified by the community partners. Students will go through the whole UCD process including contextual inquiry with experts in urban planning and development to community and neighborhood leaders to determine user needs. At the end of the semester, they will develop and test prototypes for technologies that help address identified goals.
