Partnership 4 Kids UNO Student Mentors: 2016-17 (937) Educational Support Partnership 4 Kids Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center (CEC) Volunteering Volunteerism None Spring 2016-17 Spring 2018-19 45 0 0 0 0 0 Leadership and Mentoring Since moving into the CEC, Partnership 4 Kids has worked with UNO students to provide opportunities to mentor other students between the ages of elementary and freshmen year in college. Specifically, P4K has placed approximately 15 UNO students in mentor matches within P4K elementary, middle and high schools. In addition, P4K has matched approximately 30 UNO college juniors and seniors with incoming P4K freshmen to serve as peer mentors. These volunteer opportunities include professional development/training, stipends and coaching/mentor support from P4K staff.

Newman Center Garden Landscape and Tree Planting: 2018-19 (946) Environmental Stewardship Creighton University, John Paul II Newman Center, Urban Bird and Nature Alliance Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center (CEC), Center for Urban Sustainability, Engineering and Construction Volunteering Volunteerism None Spring 2018-19 Spring 2018-19 30 0 0 20 0 0 Gardens/Plantlife The Newman Center Bible garden landscape and the papio-creek tree planting event drew Newman Center students and UNO engineering students from Avery Schwer and Bing Chen’s classes at UNL, Creighton Biology and sustainability students and the College of Saint Mary’s Earth Science course students. Students from the UNO Center for Urban Sustainability participated in the event. Approximately 69 UNO and UNL students and boy scouts volunteered that day. Surrounding neighborhood residents participated also. We received much media coverage. The Newman Center garden and raised beds event had an estimated 25-30 Newman Center students participating in the planting of shrubs and perennials.

UNO PRSSA 'Winter Wonderland' Event: 2020-21 (2412) Health and Wellness, Social Justice The MICAH House, Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) Communication Volunteering Volunteerism None Spring 2020-21 Spring 2020-21 0 0 0 0 0 0 Medical Humanities, Disadvantaged Populations, Social Justice Awareness Though this service project, led by Karen Weber and UNO PRSSA, 300 coloring and activity books were printed and distributed in Spring 2021 to the visiting nurses association as well as the MICAH house, a homeless shelter located in Council Bluffs, Iowa. This year (Spring 2022) UNO PRSSA partnered with the YMCA to donate coloring and activity books.

UNO PRSSA 'Santapaws' Event: 2016-17 (2411) Economic Impact, Educational Support, Environmental Stewardship Hearts United for Animals Communication Volunteering Volunteerism None Fall 2016-17 Fall 2021-22 0 0 0 0 0 0 Wildlife/Animal Welfare, Raise Awareness UNO PRSSA and Karen Weber hold an event called 'Santapaws' which raises money for hearts united for animals. Fall of 2021 was the 12th time this annual event has taken place.

Volunteer - Makeup Artist: 2019-20 (2502) Arts, Culture and Humanities, Health and Wellness Iowa Western Community College Theatre Volunteering Volunteerism None Fall 2019-20 Fall 2019-20 0 0 0 0 0 0 Medical Humanities, Art Charleen Willoughby was asked to create realistic looking injuries on volunteers for the Paramedic trainees to evaluate as part of their emergency response training. Such injuries included: penetrating trauma, simple and severe lacerations, fractured skull, broken back, 2nd and 3rd degree burns, and shrapnel trauma, etc.
Volunteer - Eppley Airfield Disaster Preparedness Drill: 2018-19 (2503) Arts, Culture and Humanities, Economic Impact, Health and Wellness Eppley Airfield Theatre Volunteering Volunteerism None Fall 2018-19 Fall 2018-19 0 0 0 0 0 0 Medical Humanities, Emergency Management, Art Charleen Willoughby was one of the Moulage Makeup artists who volunteered to create realistic injuries on volunteer victims for the Eppley Airfield Disaster response team's emergency preparedness drill. She set up her station on a table in a tent, and proceeded to create the injuries that were described on cards attached to each volunteer victim.

The camp office is in need of a face lift. We would utilize volunteers to help paint the camp office/shelves and storage area as well as organize the space. In addition, we have New Employee Orientation packets that will also need to be put together for the remainder of the year. The extra hands would be of great help!

The majority of the group will pull weeds, and help our Facilities Manager with outdoor project and will improve drainage from various areas of property. The rest of the volunteers will work on a book organization project (English and English literature proficiency is helpful).

Here, volunteers will assist in creating DIY holiday cards out of construction materials. We we supply the design, cards, and materials for the project. With your team's help, it is our hope to create and stuff 400 holiday cards.

Also, may do some light weeding in around of need and sweeping of sidewalks. This will be outdoors. If there is major inclement weather we will have a backup project. Project 2 (15 People): Food Preparation and Sorting, Organizing, Shelving Donations In the beginning we will be working in the kitchen and Dining Hall on food preparation needs for the day/week, after that, we will move to our Timberlake Outreach Center to Sort, Organize, and Shelve donations for community members in need.
